My journalism background:
I grew up in a northern suburb of Chicago, where I attended elementary school through high school. I started out in journalism by taking a photo class (yes, we developed black and white film). Sophomore year, I started shooting photos for the school newspaper. I became a photo editor my junior year of high school and began writing, too. Next thing I knew, my new position was Editor-in-Chief for senior year. I fell in love with journalism in high school and planned on pursuing this field as my career in college. I graduated with a BS in News-Editorial Journalism and a minor in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Spring 2010.
My most recent position was in web production. I was a part of the Media on Demand Digital Team, which produces online content for the Tribune Company’s broadcast affiliates and newspaper sites; some of these sites are the Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun and more. My team is in charge of supplying News, Sports, Entertainment, Video and Viral Content. In August 2011, I was hired full-time as a News producer after temping with the Features department for a year. This job was really the best way to stay informed in every corner of Journalism.
Right now, I am seeking work in public relations, marketing or communications. While I have experience in writing, editing and online, I’m looking to both expand my knowledge in those areas as well as explore the public relations and marketing worlds.
